More than 50 Telford and Wrekin businesses have taken advantage of the government’s Broadband Connection Voucher scheme. The scheme, which is now closed, was promoted by Telford & Wrekin Council.

The grant value represents an investment of more than £100,000 in Telford and Wrekin businesses.

The scheme was allocated £40m by national government to encourage businesses to take up a superfast broadband connection and access the many benefits this can bring.

It was open to eligible businesses and voluntary organisations across Telford and Wrekin, which could claim a grant of up to £3,000 towards the cost of upgrading to superfast broadband.

Vouchers could be used to fund all or part of the capital and equipment costs of getting a faster connection direct into the business.

Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council’s cabinet lead for superfast broadband, said: “A superfast internet connection makes the world of difference to a given business by making it more efficient.

“Benefits of a faster connection include improved reliability of service, better communication with partners, suppliers, customers and staff, reduced costs, improved data storage and accessibility.

“It is therefore great news that so many local businesses have taken advantage of this opportunity.”

Craig Clarke, owner of Lawley Bank based Clarke Delta, a survey, design and manufacturer of protective solutions for industrial equipment, said: “We applied for a grant and the benefits are already obvious.

“Superfast has made us more efficient in terms of using the web-based software we use, and more readily able to respond to the needs of our customers. It has certainly made the two-way transfer of large data files much easier.”
